Six-run fourth helps Blue Devils to 14-4 win

COLUMBUS – The Wayne High softball team scored six runs in the fourth inning and improved to 7-3 on the season with a 14-4 win Tuesday at Columbus Lakeview.
The Blue Devils scored three in the top of the first thanks to an RBI double by Jenna Trenhaile, and RBI singles by Kennedy Maly and Jamie Gamble. They added two more in the third, thanks to an RBI double from Kortney Keller and an RBI single by Tori Kniesche to make it 5-0.
Lakeview scored two in the bottom of the third, but Wayne broke it open with six in the fourth, taking advantage of two Lakeview errors, a two-run single by Gamble, a fielder’s choice for Keller and an RBI groundout by Kiara Hochstein to make it 11-2.
Wayne added two more in the top of the fifth, using a Josie Thompsen groundout and a Kayla Fleming RBI single to close out the scoring and come away with the win.
Wayne finished with 13 hits in the win, three coming by Trenhaile. Annie Kniesche and Tori Kniesch each had two hits. Tori Kniesche recorded three RBI’s, while Maly and Fleming each had two. Gamble scored three runs, while Keller, Trenhaile and Annie Kniesche each scored twice.
Ashten Gibson pitched four solid innings to get the win, allowing two hits and three walks while striking out seven. Hannah Belt pitched an inning of relief.
The Blue Devils are back home Thursday for a 6:30 p.m. matchup against Tekamah-Herman, then play Saturday in the Omaha Mercy Invitational.
