Softball team cranks out 10 hits in 12-0 shutout

Wayne scored six runs in the second and third innings and outhit Columbus 10-0 to post a three-inning, 12-0 shutout of the Discoverers Thursday at the Summer Sports Complex.

After a scoreless first frame, Wayne got on the board with an RBI triple by Sidney Biggerstaff, scoring Annie Kniesche. Biggerstaff would score on a passed ball, and Masyn Dorey would follow with a three-run double to center and come home on a Kennedy Maly double to make it 6-0.

In the third, Biggerstaff scored Josie Thompson with a double and Nicole Fertig, running for Biggerstaff came home on a double by Abby Ankeny. Kayla Fleming would add an RBI single, Jenna Trenhaile had a two-run double and Maly ended the game with an RBI double to left.

Dorey, Trenhaile, Maly and Biggerstaff each had two hits in the 10-hit effort. Dorey finished with three RBI’s and two runs scored, Trenhaile, Maly and Biggerstaff each drove in two, and Ankeny and Fleming both scored twice.

Tori Kniesche got the win, striking out six and walking one. She allowed no hits, but since the game ended in three innings it is not recognized as a no-hitter.

The 19-2 Blue Devils are back in action Thursday at Wisner-Pilger.
