St. Cloud State used eight home runs to take down Wayne State College 13-5 and 12-5 in NSIC softball action Monday at the Chapman Complex.

The visiting Huskies erupted for seven runs in the first inning in the opener and never looked back in taking the opener.

Wayne State scored two runs in the first on a two-run homer from senior first baseman Emily Chandler. They added another in the fourth on a Taylor Menard sacrifie fly and used four hits to score two runs in the fifth, highlighted by an RBI double by Abbie Hix and a Raquell Penke RBI single.

Riley Vanderveen suffered the loss in the circle with two innings of work while freshman Makenna Adkison pitched the remaining four innings.

The second game was tied at 4-4 after four innings until St. Cloud State blasted four homers to highlight a seven-run fifth inning.

Chandler had a sacrifice fly to score Morgan Vasa in the first inning. Ashley Hernandez blasted a solo homer in the second and Emily Chandler connected for another homer, a two-run shot off the left field line foul pole, to tie the game at 4-4 in the third.

After St. Cloud scored seven runs in the fifth for a 11-4 lead, Wayne State scored their final run in the bottom of the sixth on a pinch-hit single up the middle from Michaela Smith.

Maddie Moser was tagged with the loss working 4 1/3 innings. Vanderveen and Adkison both worked in relief for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats (9-14, 0-6 NSIC) will be in action again Tuesday afternoon, visiting the University of Sioux Falls in a NSIC doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
