With only a week to go before this year's event, organizers are sharing some 'egg' citing news about the 46th annual Wayne Chicken Show. This year's celebration will take place Friday, July 10 and Saturday, July 11.
This year's theme is "United We Cluck" as a tribute to the nation's 250 years of feathered freedom.
Events kick off on Friday, July 11 when attendees can come to the Chamber Coffee at 10 a.m. on the Godfather's Patio at 106 South Main to get an update on weekend.
Among the changes this year is the fact that the Crowing Motors Car Show will take place on Main Street on Friday with registration beginning at 3 p.m. and the car show running from 4 to 6:30 p.m.
The main stage for Henoween will be located at 113 South Main Street in former Riley's location. Food and craft vendors will be located along Main Street throughout the afternoon and evening.
Friday's festivities conclude with live music at 8 p.m. on the Main Stage provided by Southern Nights.
Those who enjoy running can take part in the 5K and 1 mile Chicken Run Saturday morning, July 11, starting at 7 a.m. at Providence Medical Center.
One of the highlights of the Wayne Chicken Show is the parade, which starts at 9:30 a.m. at First and Main Streets and moves up Main Street to 10th Street before heading west on 10th Street to Lincoln Street and past Bressler Park before ending at Seventh and Lincoln Streets.
Activities at Bressler Park get underway following the parade.
One of the highlights of the afternoon will be the National Cluck-off. There are two categories - ages 13 and under and ages 14 and older. The winners in each of these categories will cluck (or crow) off to earn the National Championship, bragging rights and prize money.
This year's festivities wrap up with the Light of the Sky Fireworks Show on Saturday at 10 p.m. The fireworks will be shot off from the southeast portion of Wayne and attendees can view them from Prairie Park/Summer Sports Complex.
