Southern Arkansas rallies for 15-5 win over Wildcats

Southern Arkansas used a five-run fifth inning followed by a six-run seventh inning to defeat Wayne State 15-5 in seven innings Saturday at the Alpine Fresh 4 HIM Baseball Classic in Cleburne, Texas

After Southern Arkansas opened the scoring with one run in the first, Wayne State (1-1) tied the score with a single run in the second inning on a Bryce Bisenius solo homer.

The Muleriders came back with two runs in the second and another in the third for a 4-1 lead, but Wayne State trimmed the deficit to 4-3 with a pair of runs. Travis Baily laced a two-run double to left field, scoring Jake Lemar and Biseniu.

Southern Arkansas broke the game open with a five-run fifth inning to take a 10-3 advantage before the Wildcats scored their final two runs in the top of the seventh on RBI singles from Peyton Barnes and Andrew Hanson. A six-run seventh inning ended the game on the 10-run rule.

Wayne State had six hits in the game by six different players. Bisenius had a solo homer followed by Baily with a two-run double. Hunter Babe and CJ Neumann each doubled while Barnes and Hanson each recorded run-scoring singles. Aaron Ras (0-1) suffered the pitching loss, allowing four runs on four hits over 2 2/3 innings of work with five strikeouts and three walks.
