Speech team competes at Boone Central Invitational

The Wayne High Speech Team took part in the Boone Central Invitational on Jan. 25 at Albion.

In the Novice division, Jose Olivares-Casillas was sixth in Informative; the Oral Interpretation of Drama group of Samanth Wright, Taesha Dunklau, and Abigail Gapp, finished fifth; Boden Dobbins was fifth in Informative; Landen Claussen was fourth in Humorous Prose; the Duet Acting Team of Samantha Wright and Taesha Dunklau was second; and Jacob Barner was second in Entertainment. 

Wayne’s Whitney Hadcock took top honors in Serious Prose while Clara Ankeny was champion of Persuasive.

On the Varsity side, Adrienne Anderson was sixth in both Serious and Entertainment; Gabriel Armstrong and Wanso Barner were fifth in Duet; Jordyn Clinchard was fourth in Informative; Sophia Spieker landed fourth in Entertainment; Alec Shaffer finished third in Humorous Prose while Abi Hawthorne did the same in Entertainment; and Norah Armstrong garnered runner-up honors in Program Oral Interpretation.

Wayne’s top Varsity medal went to Alec Schaffer, who was champion of Serious Prose.

"Competing with a depleted roster owing to other school activities, in the Novice Wayne finished second behind champion Humphery.  In the Varsity division Wayne took third place behind runner-up host Boone Central and champion Grand Island Central Catholic," said Head Coach Dwaine Spieker.

The Blue Devil Speakers will be back at full strength on Saturday, Feb. 1 at Hartington and again on Saturday, Feb. 8 at the seventh annual Wayne High/Wayne State Classic.
