Speech team earns first place at Pierce Invitational

Members of the Wayne Junior Varsity and Varsity Speech teams took part in the Pierce Invitational on Jan. 18.

In the JV team sweepstakes, Wayne finished in first place, well ahead of runner-up Humphery.

The Oral Interpretation of Drama team of Samantha Wright, Taesha Dunklau, and Abigail Gapp was fifth; Sharon Vasquez was fifth in Serious Prose; Riley Olson was fifth in Program Oral Interpretation; Caleb Raulston was fifth in Entertainment; Clara Ankeny was fourth in Persuasive; Alexis Adams was third in Poetry; the Duet Acting team of Taesha Dunklau and Samantha Wright was second; and Cole Zach was second in Persuasive.

The following members of the JV team brought home top honors in their respective events:  Whitney Hadcock in Serious Prose; Jacob Barner in Entertainment; Alison Sanders in Poetry; the OID team of Aleigha Hale, Callen Gamble, Nov Hawkins, Rachel Holland, and Riley Olson; and the Duet of Aleigha Hale and Rachel Holland.

In the Varsity team sweepstakes, Wayne also finished in first place, well ahead of runner-up Battle Creek and third-place Boone Central.

In the Varsity division, the following Blue Devils garnered medals:

Olivia Hanson, sixth in Persuasive; the OID of Ceilus Ibarra, Grace Junck, Josie Ley, Kennasyn Blecke, and Norah Armstrong, sixth; Nyamalo Kantai, fifth in POI; the Duet of Ceilus Ibarra and Sienna Klinetobe, fifth; Jordyn Clinchard, fourth in Informative; Sophia Spieker, third in Poetry; Colby Raulston, third in POI; Sophia Spieker, second in Entertainment; Colby Raulston, second in Serious Prose; Ceilus Ibarra, second in Poetry; and the Duet of Alec Schaffer and Aidan Bohnert, second.

Blue Devils also took the top spot in each of four varsity events:  Norah Armstrong in POI; the OID of Aidan Bohnert, Colby Raulston, Gabriel Armstrong, Gavin Anderson, and Johen Piper; the Duet of Wanso Barner and Gabriel Armstrong; and Alec Schaffer in Humorous Prose.

Next up for the Blue Devil Speakers is the Boone Central Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 25 in Albion, followed by the Hartington/Hartington Cedar Catholic Invitational on Feb. 1.
