Members of the Wayne High School Speech Team took part in the Boone Central Invitational on Jan. 21.
Results are as follows:
Novice division: Riley Olson, fifth in Humorous; Dean Young, fourth in Informative; Ava Elliot and Sienna Klinetobe, fourth in Duet; Drew Fertig, third in Humorous; Sienna Klinetobe, third in Poetry; the OID team of Arianna Mulhair, Mia Keuster and Aleigha Hale, third; the Duet of Kennyson Blecke and Grace Junck, second; Ava Elliot, second in Persuasive; and Leah Fisher, second in Humorous.
Sophia Spieker tied for first place in Novice Entertainment and combined with Nyamalo Kantai for first place in Novice Duet.
As a team, the Blue Devil Novice Speakers garnered first place overall.
Wayne had two varsity champions on the day — Parker Kesting in Extemporaneous and Alec Shaffer in Humorous.
In the team sweepstakes, Wayne finished in second place behind Boone Central.
Varsity division placings included: Abi Hawthorne, sixth in Entertainment; Maiah Davis, sixth in Extemporaneous; Evan Allemann, sixth in Informative; the OID team of Gavin Anderson, Aiden Bohnert, Johen Piper, and Colby Raulston, sixth; the OID of Grace Junck, Adrienne Anderson, Josie Ley, Kennyson Blecke, and Norah Armstrong, fifth; Colby Raulston, fourth in Program Oral Interpretation; the OID of Ashton Brandow, Maddie Franta, Easton Blecke, and Orion Spieker, third; Maiah Davis, third in Persuasive; and Orion Spieker, runner-up in Humorous.
Next up for the Wayne Speakers is the Hartington/Hartington CC Invite on Saturday, Jan. 28.
