Speech team takes part in invitational

Members of the Wayne High School Speech team traveled to Albion for the Boone Central Invitational Speech tournament on Jan. 20.

The following members of the JV Speech Team placed in the Novice division of the event:

Alexis Adams, sixth in Poetry; Sharon Vasquez, fifth in Serious Prose; Andrea Olivares-Casillas, fifth in Informative; Ryder Olberding, fourth in Humorous Prose; Jordyn Clinchard, fourth in Extemporaneous; Rachel Holland, third in Informative; Alison Zuniga, third in Poetry; Isaiah Yarde, runner-up in Poetry; Hunter Ruwe, runner-up in Extemporaneous; Jordyn Clinchard, champion in Informative; and the Duet Acting team of Wanso Barner and Gabriel Armstrong, champions.

As a team, the Wayne JV squad finished runner-up in the Novice Division.

The following members of the Varsity team also placed at Boone Central on Saturday: 

Sienna Klinetobe, sixth in Poetry; Josie Ley, sixth in Extemporaneous; Alondra Vega, sixth in Serious Prose; Norah Armstrong, fifth in Program of Oral Interpretation; the Duet Acting team of Alec Schaffer and Aidan Bohnert, fifth; Maddie Franta, fifth in Entertainment; and the Oral Interpretation of Drama Team of Colby Raulston, Gavin Anderson, Johen Piper, Gabriel Armstrong and Aidan Bohnert, fifth.

Congratulations have been extended to the Duet Acting team of Maddie Franta and Colby Raulston, who finished runners-up; the Oral Interpretation of Drama team of Josie Ley, Adrienne Anderson, Grace Junck, Norah Armstrong, and Kennasyn Blecke, who were crowned champions; and Alec Schaffer, who was named champion of Humorous Prose.

"As a team, the Blue Devils finished third by one point, closely behind runner-up Humphery and champion Boone Central," said Head Coach Dwaine Spieker.

Next up for the Wayne Speakers is the Hartington/Hartington Cedar Catholic Invitational on Saturday, Jan 27.

After that, they play host to the Wayne High/Wayne State Classic on Saturday, Feb. 3 on the Wayne State College Campus.
