It was a special day recently for Stanley Settje as he was honored by Governor Jim Pillen with a Korean War Medal of Honor.

The medal was presented through the Nebraska Department of Veterans' Affairs in recognition of Settje's military service and sacrifices made during the Korean War.

Stanley Settje answered the call to serve while still in high school, enlisting in the U.S. Army during his senior year.

Born on December 28, 1934, he served his country from 1952 to 1954 with courage and dedication. After completing boot camp at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas, he was deployed to Korea, where he spent 18 months on the front lines as a Staff Sergeant.

In addition to his combat service, Settje was selected to serve in the honor guard, a role that reflected his discipline and respect for military tradition.
