The annual State 4-H Horse Expo was held July 15-19 at Fonner Park in Grand Island. Nine Wayne County 4-H members were among 4-Hers from across the state that entered the event. Results are as follows:
The Wayne County Horse Judging Team was named Champion in the State Horse Judging Contest. Team members include Jacen Hasemann (Reserve Champion), Reese Rethwisch (third place), Kate Hill (seventh place), and Claire Lutter (ninth place). They earned the opportunity to represent Nebraska at Western National in Denver in January 2024.
Raylyn Behmer, daughter of Nate and Tara Behmer, Hoskins, received red ribbons in Junior Reining, Junior Barrel Racing, and Junior Pole Bending.
Jacen Hasemann, daughter of Scott and Mary Kay Hasemann, Wayne, received a purple (3rd place) in Western Pleasure Ponies, a purple (10th place) in Senior Showmanship, a purple in Senior Western Horsemanship, a blue (9th place) in 6–10-Year-Old Haler Mares, a red in Senior Ranch Riding, and a white in Senior Reining.
Kate Hill, daughter of Mark Hill and Karen Longe, Wayne, received Reserve Champion and a purple in Senior Hunter Under Saddle, a purple (eighth place) in Senior Western Horsemanship, a purple (eighth place) in Senior Hunt Seat Equitation, a purple in Senior Western Pleasure, blue ribbons in 6–10-Year-Old Halter Mare and Senior Trail (ninth place), and a white in Senior Showmanship.
Audrey Lutter, daughter of Jim and Beth Lutter, Carroll, earned Champion and a purple in Junior Hunter Under Saddle, Reserve Champion and a purple in Junior Western Horsemanship, a purple (fourth place) in Junior Showmanship, a purple (fourth place) in Junior Hunt Seat Equitation, and a purple (10th place) in Junior Western Pleasure.
Claire Lutter, daughter of Jim and Beth Lutter, Carroll, earned Reserve Champion and a purple in 2-Year-old Western Pleasure, Reserve Champion and a purple in 1- & 2-Year-Old Halter Geldings, a purple (fourth place) in 3–5-Year-Old Haler Geldings, a purple (10th place) in Senior Ranch Riding, and white ribbons in Senior Ranch Pleasure and Senior Reining.
Lanee Rethwisch, daughter of Jesse and Angie Rethwisch, Wayne, received Champion and a purple in Junior Western Pleasure, Reserve Champion and a purple in 1- & 2-Year-Old Halter Mares, a purple (third place) in Junior Ranch Pleasure, a purple (third place) in Junior Reining, a purple (fourth place) in Junior Western Horsemanship, a purple (fifth place) in 6–10-Year-Old Halter Mares, a purple (sixth place) in Junior Ranch Riding, and a purple in Junior Showmanship.
Reese Rethwisch, daughter of Jesse and Angie Rethwisch, Wayne, earned Champion and a purple in 2-Year-old Western Pleasure, Reserve Champion and a purple in 11+ Year Old Geldings, Reserve Champion and a purple in Senior Trail, Reserve Champion and purple in Senior Hunt Seat Equitation, a purple (third place) in Senior Hunter Under Saddle, a purple in Senior Western Pleasure, a blue (fifth place) in 1- & 2-Year-Old Halter Gelding, and blue ribbons in Senior Showmanship and Senior Western Horsemanship.
Hadley Sellin, daughter of Josh and Sarah Sellin, Hoskins, received Reserve Champion and a purple in Working Ranch Horse, a purple (ninth place) in Junior Barrel Racing, and blues in Junior Ranch Pleasure, Junior Western Horsemanship, and Junior Pole Bending.
Quin Sellin, daughter of Josh and Sarah Sellin, Hoskins, received a purple (ninth place) in Elementary Western Horsemanship, a purple (10th place) in Elementary Ranch Pleasure, a blue (ninth place) in Elementary Barrel Racing, and a blue (ninth place) in Elementary Pole Bending.
