State of the School presentation held for Wayne Community Schools

A group of community members, school board members and Wayne Community Schools' staff were on hand for a State of the Schools presentation last week.

Wayne Community Schools' Superintendent Dr. Mark Lenihan shared information during the one-hour informative event on topics such as the Board and Superintendent Student Achievement Goals, the Board and Superintendent Communication Goals and the Board and Superintendent Facility and Financial Goals.

In regard to facilities, Dr. Lenihan talked about the mid-range goal of addressing upkeep and facility needs. This includes the high school gym floor and work at Kern Track to make it more accessible.

Safety procedures currently in place throughout the district were highlighted and information shared on emergency plans and procedures.

Sources of funding for the district were explained and Dr. Lenihan talked about both the growth in expenditures and shifts in how state funding is provided to the district. He noted that the valuation within the district has grown $900,000,000 in the past 10 years and the current total valuation if $1,501,690,307.

Enrollment numbers were highlighted and test scores shared. These indicate Wayne Community Schools' students are performing above state and national averages and have seen an increase in scores in the past several years.

In regard to what the future holds, Dr. Lenihan told the audience the district intends to "work with kids and relationships and keep working on improving test scores."
