State Patrol investigates fatality accident on Highway 20

At approximately 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, the Nebraska State Patrol was called to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 20 and Highway 57, near Belden in Cedar County. 

Preliminary investigation shows that a Ford Focus was traveling southbound on Highway 57 when it failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection with Highway 20. The Ford then struck the side of a semi traveling westbound on Highway 20. 

The driver of the Ford, identified as Philip Durham, 72, of Coleridge, was pronounced deceased at the scene. A teenage passenger of the Ford has been flown to Children’s Hospital in Omaha with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the semi was not injured. 

The crash remains under investigation. The Cedar County Sheriff’s Office, Wayne Police Department, Randolph Fire and Rescue, and Belden Fire and Rescue assisted in this response.
