STATE TRACK – Area athletes earn medals on first day

OMAHA – The Allen boys track team is in the top 10 in Class D after the first session of the 2016 Nebraska State Track and Field Championships.
The Eagles’ 3,200-meter relay team posted a third-place finish, and Tayler Kumm – who was part of that relay – added a third-place finish in the 3,200-meter run.
Winside’s Kelly Tweedy got the Wildcats on the board in Class D girls action with an eighth-place finish in the discus, and Allen’s Lexi Oswald scored an eighth in the Class D 3,200-meter girls race.
In Class B action, Kylie Hammer earned a runner-up finish in the Class B girls long jump, and Grayson McBride finished third in Class B high jump action.
In Class C action, Aaron Haahr was the only area athlete to come close to the medal stand. The LCC senior finished ninth in the 3,200-meter run.
Saturday's action begins with field events at 8:30 a.m. and track events at 9:30 a.m. at Burke High Stadium.
Class B Boys
Triple jump – 11. Grayson McBride, Wayne, 40-6.
High jump – 3. Grayson McBride, Wayne, 6-5.
Team Standings – Wayne is tied for 15th after six events with 6 points. York leads with 26 points.
Class B Girls
Long jump – 2. Kylie Hammer, Wayne, 17-6 1/4.
Discus – 12. Jenna Trenhaile, Wayne, 109-8.
400 – 14. Kylie Hammer, Wayne, 1:01.40; 15. Tarah Stegemann, Wayne, 1:01.53.
Team Standings – Wayne is tied for seventh ater four events with 8 points. York leads with 24 points.
Class D Boys
3,200 relay – 3. Allen (Sean O’Keefe, Isaac Verzani, Tayler Kumm, Garrett Brentlinger), 8:37.00.

Team Standings – Allen is tied for sixth after five events with 12 points. Falls City SH leads with 18 points.
Class D Girls
