OMAHA — Athletes from the five area schools are in Burke Stadium this weekend for the 2018 Nebraska State Track and Field Championsihps.
The Allen boys 3,200-meter relay team picked up the area's first medal of the meet, posting an eighth-place finish in 8:39.61.
Ally Jackson of Allen is the first to qualify for the finals on Saturday, posting the sixth-fastest time in the Class D girls 400-meter dash.
Kylie Hammer of Wayne earned the Blue Devils' first medal of the meet, taking seventh in the Class B girls long jump with a best mark of 16 feet, 11 inches. Jack Evetovich also earned a medal, tying for eighth in the boys high jump.
Israel Gardea threw the shot put 50 feet, 4 inches to pick up a seventh-place medal for the Wakefield boys. Solomon Peitz made the finals in the triple jump, but came up a spot short of the medal stand with a ninth-place finish.
