STATE TRACK -- More area athletes earn medals

OMAHA – Five area athletes added to the area medal haul on Saturday during the final day of the 2016 Nebraska State Track and Field Championships at Burke Stadium.
Allen’s boys nailed down a top 10 finish in the Class D boys team race with two more medals on the day. Sean O’Keefe started the day with a sixth-place finish in the 800-meter run, and Tayler Kumm placed fifth later in the day in the 1,600-meter run. Kumm also ran the 800, finishing 10th.
Danica Schaefer earned a medal in her first appearance at state for Wayne High, taking fifth in the Class B girls shot put with a best throw of 38 feet, 9 inches. Tarah Stegemann just missed making the medal stand, taking ninth in the high jump.
Other area athletes earning medals were Wakefield’s Dylan Hurlbert and Allen’s Alexis Oswald. Hurlbert took sixth in the Class C boys long jump with a best mark of 20-7 1/4, while Oswald got her second medal with a seventh-place effort in the Class D girls 1,600-meter run.

Shot put – 5. Danica Schaefer, Wayne, 38-9.
Triple jump – 12. Kylie Hammer, Wayne, 33-7.
800 – 18. Gabrielle Meyer, Wayne, 2:28.90
Class C Girls
800 – 19. Josephine Peitz, Wakefield, 2:31.30.    
Class D Girls
Shot put – 22. Kelly Tweedy, Winside, 29-4.
800 – 17. Alexis Oswald, Allen 2:36.75.
1,600 – 7. Alexis Oswald, Allen, 5:34.00.
High jump – 17. Gabrielle Sullivan, Allen, 4-8.
Class C Boys
Long jump – 6. Dylan Hurlbert, Wakefield, 20-7 1/4.
Class D Boys
800 – 6. Sean O’Keefe, Allen, 2:03.64; 10. Tayler Kumm, Allen, 2:04.27.
1,600 – 5. Tayler Kumm, Allen, 4:45.19.
