OMAHA -- Wayne and Winside both came home with two medals from the 2020 Nebraska State Wrestling Championships that concluded Saturday in Omaha.
Wayne had two medalists for the first time since 2004, highlighted by Mike Leatherdale's championship effort in the Class B, 285-pound division. He avenged his only loss of the year, pinning Arlington's Remmington Gay in the second period to claim the title.
Leatherdale was joined by Reece Jaqua, who bounced back from a first-round loss on Thursday to win three elimination matches on Friday and finished fifth at 126 pounds.
Winside made the most of their three medalists and finished in the top 10 in the final Class D team standings. Gabe Escalante was a runner-up at 138 pounds, Cayden Ellis finished third at 113 pounds and Art Escalante placed fourth at 132 pounds.
