Three area wrestlers came away with medals during the final day of the 2017 Nebraska State Wrestling Championships at the Century Link Center in Omaha.
Wakefield senior Cody Thomas came up one point short in his Class C 182-pound championship match against Joseph Reimers of Aquinas, losing a 4-3 decision. Thomas scored on a takedown in the first period, but gave up a reversal in the second to tie the match. He got an escape early in the third, but was taken down and couldn't get the match-tying escape, suffering his first loss of the year to end his 32-1 season.
Koby Ellis of Winside was the consolation champion at 106 pounds in Class D, avenging a quarterfinals loss to Cameron Wilkinson of Neligh-Oakdale with a 7-4 decision in the consolation finals.
