Funeral services for Steve Glassmeyer, 80, of Wayne will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 8 at First United Methodist Church in Wayne. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7 at first First United Methodist Church. Burial, with military rites, will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Norfolk.

Steve died Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026 at Faith Health in Norfolk.

Memorial funds in memory of Steve may be directed to the family for a future date.

Arrangements are with Hasemann Funeral Home in Wayne.

Steven Ross Glassmeyer was born in Wayne, Jan. 10, 1946, to Floyd and Pearl Glassmeyer. After completing high school in Wayne, he joined the United States Air Force and served his country with honor until 1968. Following his military service, Steve devoted much of his life to farming the family farm. He took great pride in working the land and carrying on the family farming tradition. In addition to farming, Steve owned and operated his own trucking business, another reflection of his strong work ethic, determination and dedication to providing for those he loved.

On Sept. 15, 2001 Steve married Ginny Bethune. During their 23 years of marriage, they enjoyed farming together, traveling and spending time with family. Steve was a loving and devoted husband, caring for Ginny in the last years of her life until her passing on July 6, 2025.

Steve will be remembered for his love of family, his hardworking nature, his years of service to his country, and his commitment to the family farm. Above all, he cherished the people he loved and the time they shared together.

He leaves behind a lifetime of memories that will be treasured by his family and friends. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, hard work, family, and service will live on in those who knew and loved him.

Steve is survived by sons, Chris (Jodi) Glassmeyer of Phoenix, Arizona and Steven Bethune of Wayne; daughters, Theresa (Bradley) Poppe of Wayne and Tina Engelbart (Fiance Tom Higginbotham) of Norfolk; grandchildren, Rob (Breanne) Dishman, Samantha Flood, Megan Arehart, Whitney (John) Roberts, Jarrett Engelbart, Austin Bethune, Michaela Madison and Heather La Marca; great-grandchildren, Devin, Brayden, Olivia, Jude, Shayd, Aria, Marcella, Silas and Mia.

He was preceded in death by wife, Ginny and his parents Floyd and Pearl Glassmeyer.
