Students head 'back to the books'

After what they probably consider a summer break that was 'too short,' students are heading back to school this week and next.

At the Allen Consolidated Schools, classes began today (Aug. 10) with a 1:30 p.m. dismissal. A full day of classes will be held Friday, Aug. 11. 

The first day for Pre-K students at Allen will be Monday, Aug. 14.

Winside Public School students will begin the 2023-2024 school year on Friday, Aug. 11 with a 2 p.m. dismissal. Pre-school students will begin the year on Monday, Aug. 14.

A Back-to-School Community Barbecue and Open House for PK-sixth grade will be held on Thursday, Aug. 10 beginning at 5:30 p.m.

In Wayne, students will start the year on Wednesday, Aug. 16 with a noon dismissal. Kindergarten students will be served lunch that day.

The first day of school at the Early Learning Center will be Monday, Aug. 21 for the PK4 class and Tuesday, Aug. 22 for PK3.

Prior to the start of classes, a Back to School get together will be held Monday, Aug. 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the elementary school.

For students at Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, the first day of classes for students in grades 5-12 will be Wednesday, Aug. 13 with a 2 p.m. dismissal. Students in grades kindergarten through fourth grade will be Friday, Aug. 25 with a regular 3:38 p.m. dismissal.

A Welcome Back to School Night for students for both LCC high school students and LCC middle school students will be held Tuesday, Aug. 22 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the respective schools. The Back to School Night for students in PK through fourth grade will be held Thursday, Aug. 24 from 4 to 7 p.m.

For students at Wayne State College, a Business and Organization Expo will be held Sunday, Aug. 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Kanter Student Center.

Classes for the fall semester will begin on Monday, Aug. 21.
