Three area teams advanced through to Thursday’s finals in subdistrict basketball play Tuesday evening.
In C1-7 action at Norfolk High School, Wayne held on for a 39-35 win over Pierce, the second win over the Bluejays in four days, to advance to Thursday’s final against Norfolk Catholic, who upended top-seeded Winnebago 64-51.
In C2-6 play at Norfolk Catholic, top-seeded Wakefield pulled away late for a 47-37 win over Wisner-Pilger and will face Howells-Dodge, a 64-44 winner over Lutheran High Northeast.
The C2-7 subdistrict saw top-seed LCC blow out Crofton 77-50, while two-time defending Class C-2 champion Ponca outlasted Hartington CC, 65-53. This will be the third meeting between the Bears and Indians, with each team recording a win.
Allen lost a close one to Emerson-Hubbard, 38-35, in the D1-4 subdistrict at Ponca on Tuesday. Winside was ousted in the play-in bracket of the D2-3 subdistrict at Shelby on Monday, losing to Osceola 57-15.
Thursday’s subdistrict final games start at 7 p.m.
