Taxes - no one likes to pay them and many don't understand how they are collected.
Property owners receive a tax bill from the county that includes taxes collected for a number of entities.
In Wayne County, taxes are collected for the county, the school (both operating expenses and a school bond passed in 2023), ESU1, Northeast Community College, the Lower Elkhorn Natural Resources District, the city of Wayne (for those whose property is in the corporate city limits), Wayne Community Redevelopment Authority (within city limits), Wayne Airport Authority (within city limits) and Wayne County Ag Society.
Wayne City Administrator Wes Blecke provided information on the levy, which is the amount collected per $100 of the property's value, and the percentage of the total tax bill for a property owner in the city of Wayne.
Final budgets for the upcoming fiscal year are currently being finalized based on the updated valuations.
