TC Thunder plate five runs in fourth, 13 combined errors during Wayne loss

Northeast Nebraska high school baseball took over Hank Overin Field in late March.

Thursday marked the first of two meetings between Wayne High and Thurston-Cuming County (Pender/Bancroft-Rosalie/Lyons-Decatur Northeast).

The TC Thunder used a five-run fourth inning to pick up the 7-3 victory over Wayne. The Blue Devils have now dropped back-to-back falling to 2-2 as Thurston-Cuming County moved to 1-1.

Scoring began in the home half of the first inning for Wayne. Senior Alex Rodriguez drove in senior Gavin Redden.

Neither team scored in the second, followed by the TC Thunder tying the game at 1-1 in the top of the third.

WHS would answer with another single run the next half inning to take a 2-1 lead as Redden scored on an error.

Thurston-Cuming County then brought in five runs during the top of the fourth to lead 6-2.

Following a scoreless fifth, the Blue Devils would score once more in the home half of the sixth. Senior Brayden Rajaee-Hallgren drove in junior Drew Reinhardt who scored on an error.

The TC Thunder also added one more run in the top of the seventh.

Final favored Thurston-Cuming County winning 7-3 despite Wayne winning the hit department, 4-3. The co-op of Pender/Bancroft-Rosalie/Lyons-Decatur Northeast committed seven errors while the Blue Devils had six errors.

Wayne High leaders were Gavin Redden who singled twice and scored twice as Alex Rodriguez singled and drove in a run.

Sophomore Adrian Contreras singled; Brayden Rajaee-Hallgren accounted for a RBI as Drew Reinhardt scored.

Junior Brodrick Tiedtke (85 pitches) suffered the loss in six innings allowing six runs off two hits while striking out two batters, walking three and hitting one. Junior Parker Patefield (21) worked the final inning allowing an earned run off one hit while striking out and walking one batter each.

Another location change for early April was shared by Athletic Director Dave Wragge for the Monday, April 7 Wayne High baseball game. WHS will now face GACC-West Point-Beemer in West Point.
