Terry died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2026 at CHI Plainview Medical Center in Plainview, after a battle with cancer.

Terry L. Lovett was born Dec. 3, 1948 in Norfolk to Lawrence “Tony” and Shirley (Tibbs) Lovett. Around the age of 12, he began helping his father, Tony, build custom homes in the Norfolk area when he was not in school or running in track. Construction was one of his great loves. In 1967, Terry graduated from Norfolk Senior High School.

After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army with his best friend. Terry served his country from 1970 to 1972 as an (MP) military policeman. Unfortunately, his best friend was shot right beside him, which was a horrible ordeal for everyone.

After his discharge from the service, he moved to Wayne, where he worked as a mechanic at Wolske’s GM Auto from 1973 to 1975. Terry moved to Omaha in the mid 1970’s.

In April/May of 1975, he began employment at Crystal Beverage with Louis Thomas, Jr. and they became fast friends. Terry and Louis became co-owners of a drive-through liquor store on Ames in Omaha. When they purchased the store, it was ranked at almost the bottom in town. They grew this business to be in the top 20 in the city. The liquor store had so much business that the police often had to direct traffic.

For many years Terry managed a textile cleaning and storage business which afforded him the opportunity to view some of the most prominent and beautiful homes in Omaha.

He was married to Darlene for a few years, before moving back to Norfolk to help his ailing parents. Terry later worked for Pepsi, managed the VFW, and went on to work at Stahla’s. He also worked in building materials at Menards.

Terry loved fishing, hunting, rafting, canoeing, and gardening. He took great pride in having one of the best lawns in the neighborhood. Terry also enjoyed spending time with his friends and socializing. His favorite fishing spot was Table Rock.  And last, but certainly not least, were the Nebraska football games.

He is survived by his significant other, Robin Webbert-Jones; special friends, April Lage-Hoffert of Omaha and Mel Lage-Van Berkum of South Sioux City; and cousins, Jeanette Young of Sioux City, Iowa and Russ Prince of Winside.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents; brother; and cousins, Denise Broders of Wayne, Rollie Lorensen of Norfolk, and Phyllis, Chuck, and Buford Prince.
