Three area wrestlers were named among the top six in their respective weight classes in the final Nebraska Scholastic Wrestling Coaches Association rankings that were announced Thursday.
In Class B, Wayne High senior Juan Vergara is ranked fourth at 138 pounds.
Wakefield/Allen’s Isaac Verzani is also ranked fourth in Class C at 152 pounds.
In Class D, Winside’s Koby Ellis is ranked second at 120 pounds, while Ethan Williams of LCC is a contender at 220 pounds.
District wrestling action takes place Friday and Saturday at various locations across the state. The top four in each weight class qualifies for next week’s state tournament in Omaha.
