The NSIC is celebrating its 25-year anniversary during the 2016-17 academic year, with the year-long celebration leading up to July 1, when the league will turn 25 years old. As part of the event, the NSIC selected a men’s and a women’s top 25 team.
All 50 members have been invited to attend the NSIC Hall of Fame Banquet, which will be held on Tuesday, July 11 at 6 p.m. at the Best Western Premier in Burnsville, Minn. The 2017 NSIC Hall of Fame inductees will be announced the week of June 5.
Selected to represent Wayne State College were Brady Borner, a three-time All-NSIC pitcher and 2001 graduate who played in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization for six years; Ashley Arlen, a 2012 graduate and two-time All-American who led the Wayne State women’s basketball team to the school’s first-ever NCAA Div. II Elite Eight appearance; and Sara Wells, a 2015 graduate and an indoor and outdoor national champion thrower for the Wayne State women’s track team.
The NSIC’s Top 25 teams consist of student-athletes that competed in the NSIC over the past 25 years. One male and/or one female student-athlete were released during the academic year, revealing the NSIC Top 25 teams. The teams were selected by the NSIC Office, with input from each member institution. The NSIC Top 25 teams include an athlete from each NSIC sponsored sport with the remaining spots filled with at-large bids. Criteria for each sport was used to select the top athletes that competed in the NSIC since its inception in the summer of 1992. Two main criteria were that the student-athlete must have graduated and be in good standing with the University. Other criteria included, but was not limited to, national and NSIC player of the year honors, All-NSIC honors, career stats and other milestones.
