Throwers hit NCAA provisional marks

Two Wayne State throwers earned NCAA provisional marks during action in the SDSU Div. II Invitational held Friday in Brookings, S.D.

Sophomore Brooklyn Chipps and graduate student McKenzie Scheil both his NCAA provisional marks. Chips finished second in the weight throw with a mark of 62 feet, 2 1/2 inches, which ranks as the eighth-best throw in NCAA Div. II. Scheil placed fourth in the shot put, with a provisional mark of 45-1 3/4.

Both finished strong in other events. Chips was seventh in the shot put (42-11) while Scheil was fifth in the weight throw (61-3).

In other women’s action, Kelly Samba was seventh in the triple jump (34-10 1/4) Allie Roster finished eighth in the mile (5:36.75) and ninth in the 1,000-meter run (3:22.59), and Allison Stineman was 10th in the 1,000 (3:28.85) and 12th in the mile (5:43.49).

In men’s competition, Bryce Holcomb had the top running event of the day, taking eighth in the 1,000 in 2:40.51, and Cole Christoffersen placed eighth in the weight throw at 55-9 1/4.

Logan Moeller was ninth in the triple jump at 44-3 1/4, Braden Johnson finished 14th in the long jump (20-11 1/4) and Brock Hagarty was 16th in the mile (4:31.28).

Next action for the Wayne State track teams is Friday and Saturday at the Mark Scchuck Open in Mankato, Minn.
