It was another busy Thursday night of area high school volleyball along with Wayne High softball.
Both Wayne and Wakefield traveled to Wisner-Pilger for the Jean Groth Volleyball Classic competing in their respective pools.
In Pool B, Wayne swept both the host Gators (25-13, 25-14) and West Point-Beemer (25-12, 25-18) to improve to 4-0.
Wayne will be back in Wisner for the Gold bracket on Saturday facing Oakland-Craig at 9:30 a.m., GACC at 11:30 a.m. and North Bend at 1:30 p.m.
In Pool D, Wakefield suffered losses in straight sets against Archbishop Bergan (13-25, 17-25) and GACC (7-25, 12-25) to fall to 0-4.
Wakefield will travel to Pender on Saturday for the Bronze bracket and face Bancroft-Rosalie at 8:30 a.m., West Point-Beemer at 9:30 a.m. and Pender at 11 a.m.
Laurel-Concord-Coleridge traveled to Tilden and swept Elkhorn Valley (25-21, 25-21, 25-18). The Bears are now 4-0 on the season and will next compete in the Wakefield Invite on both September 11 and September 13.
Tri County Northeast hosted a triangular from Emerson-Hubbard. The Wolfpack, now 2-1 first dropped a 2-0 loss to Humphrey-Lindsay (18-25, 20-25) followed by a 2-0 sweep over Homer (25-23, 25-19). The Allen/Emerson-Hubbard co-op will next travel to Howells-Dodge for a triangular along with Pender on September 9.
After playing three straight on the road, Wayne was back at the confines of the Wayne Softball Complex. The Blue Devils secured a 12-2 win over South Sioux City to improve to 6-2. WHS will next travel to Papillion for the NFCA Kaiti Williams Memorial Leadoff Classic Tournament and face Millard North at 1:30 p.m. along with Fossil Ridge (CO) at 5 p.m. both on Friday.
Wayne State College volleyball also began a series of four matches in three days during the Thrasher Classic in Nashville, TN. #21 WSC swept Henderson State (AR) (25-19, 25-14, 25-18). The Wildcats will next face Alabama Huntsville at 12:15 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. match against Erskine College (SC) on Friday before closing with a 12:30 p.m. match against the host Trevecca Nazarene on Saturday.
