Tommy “Tom” Lee Nissen, 65, of Allen died at his home surrounded by family on Wednesday, June 12, 2024. 

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18 at Salem Lutheran Church in Wakefield. Pastor Ernesto Medina will be officiating. A memorial visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, June 17at the Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield. Burial will be in the Wakefield Cemetery. 

Memorials may be made to the Dixon County Fair Board. 

Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home of Wakefield is assisting with the services.

Tommy “Tom” Lee Nissen was born March 12, 1959 in Wayne, the son of Robert and Marlene (Hoffman) Nissen. Following his graduation from Wayne High School, he was united in marriage at Salem Lutheran Church in Wakefield to Brenda Oberg on March 24, 1979. To this union three children were born, Benjamin, Melissa, and Jacob. He continued his education at Northeast Community College, where he earned an Associate Degree and Wayne State College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. He worked for many years as an agronomist, was a member of the Dixon County Fair Board, and loved all things agricultural-related.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda of Allen; son, Benjamin (Megan) Nissen of Arlington, and their children, Gabriella, Madelynn, and Olivia; son, Jacob Nissen of Durham, North Carolina; daughter, Melissa (Jason) Overholt of Arlington, and their children, Jaydee, and Brody; father, Robert Nissen of Wayne; sister, Pamela Nissen of Wayne; brother, Michael (Kathy) Nissen of Wayne; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Gloria Oberg of Wakefield; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Marlene Nissen.
