Top Wildcat track and field results during Concordia Invite, USD Early Bird Meet

Following home competition in late March, the Wayne State College women’s and men’s outdoor track & field team kept their throwers in-state over the weekend along with a split team heading north to Vermillion, South Dakota.

Again, the Wildcat team was split with throwers competing in Seward on Saturday and middle distance and distance runners at the USD Early Bird Meet on Friday.

In the women’s division, senior Hailey Baker and sophomore Brooklyn Kruse each posted second-place finishes in throwing events Saturday at the Concordia Invite in Seward.

Baker led five Wildcat throwers in the top eight in the hammer throw taking second at 158′ 3″. Senior Reilly Young was third (156′ 7″), senior McKenna Markle fourth at 150′, freshman Taylor Arp was sixth (148′ 11″) and freshman McKinley Grover placed eighth at 138′ 11″.

In the shot put, Kruse recorded a second-place mark of 45′ 7 ¾” with freshman Jalecia Williams fifth (41′ 3″), Baker sixth at 38′ 6 ¾” and sophomore Torrance Tso seventh (37′ 6 ¾”).  Tso also had a seventh-place mark in the discus at 133′ 8″.

Freshman Reagan Murphy had the best finish for the Wildcats at Friday’s USD Early Bird Meet finishing eighth in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:05.56.

In the men’s division in Seward, sophomore Jaxson Ninete finished second in the discus at 155’2″ and had another second-place effort in the hammer throw with a toss of 178′ 2″.

Junior Daylin Mallory was third in the discus at 154′ 4″ with freshman Samuel Zazueta seventh (140′ 3″) and freshman Braden McGill eighth at 133′ 5″.

In the hammer throw, Zazueta was fifth (162′ 9″), junior Alex Altman seventh (157′ 5″) and junior Jake Peitz eighth (155′ 9′). Peitz also collected a third-place finish in the shot put at 46′ ¾” and junior Matthew Logue was ninth in the javelin (153′ 4″).

The top finishers for the Wildcats at the USD Early Bird Meet Friday in Vermillion, SD were senior Brandon Mitzel taking 10th in the 3000-meter steeplechase at 10:35.69 and junior Quentin Dreyer was 13th in the 1500-meter run at 3:58.01.
