Dylan Kaup won the hammer throw to lead a 1-2-3-4 finish for the Wildcats while Ben Allen hit an NCAA provisional mark in the shot put to lead the Wayne State men’s track and field team Saturday at the Nebraska Invitational, held at Ed Weir Track in Lincoln.
Kaup took first place in the hammer throw at 192 feet, 7 inches, followed by Cade Kalkowski in second at 189-7. Richard Sweeney was third (170-11) and Matt Nemec fourth (167-1) to lead a Wildcat sweep of the top four positions.
Ben Allen took third in the shot put with an NCAA provisional mark of 53-9 1/4, with teammate Jayle Hinkle coming in fifth at 49-3 3/4.
Preston Davis recorded a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (56.23) and was third in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.49 seconds.
Other top Wildcat finishers included Kyle Lowe taking fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (57.60), Brock Hegarty was sixth in the 1,500-meter run at 4:08.84 and Mikhail Sands finishes eighth in the long jump at 21-11 1/2.
In women’s action, Jordyn Pester, Mckenzie Scheil and Kenzie Sullivan each recorded fourth-place finishes to lead the way.
Pester took fourth in the 200-meter dash in 25.28 seconds, Sullivan collected a fourth-place throw in the discus (153-11) while Scheil came in fourth place in the shot put (43-3 3/4).
Fifth-place finishes were recorded by Scheil in the hammer throw (175-2) and Mikayla Marvin in the pole vault (10-4).
Other top finishers included Sullivan finishing sixth in the shot put (41-10), Andrea Torres seventh in the 3,000-meter run (11:26.80) and Tia Jones eighth in the hammer throw (160-4) and the shot put (37-6 1/2), Nicole Heeren was eighth in the discus with a heave of 137-7 and Joan Jelimo eighth in the 400-meter dash at 59.09 seconds.
Wayne State will compete in the 2019 Northern Sun Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships Friday and Saturday in Duluth, Minn.
