A pair of women’s soccer players as well as a member of the Wayne State College football team all collected NSIC Player of the Week honors.

According to a release from Wayne State Athletics, senior midfielder Maia Vacks was named Offensive Player of the Week while freshman defender Addison Walker received Defensive Player of the Week honors after week one of soccer action. Also, sophomore placekicker Boston Hensley was announced as the Northern Sun Conference Special Teams Player of the Week after NSIC week one competition.

A graduate of Navarre High School in Florida, Vacks produced three points with one goal and one assist in Sunday’s 4-0 victory over William Jewell College (MO). Vacks had seven shots in two matches last week vs. Northwestern Oklahoma State (0-0 tie) and William Jewell and was credited with three shots on goal.

Walker, a 5-10 freshman defender from Omaha (Gretna HS), anchored a Wildcat defense that posted two shutouts during the week. She played all 90 minutes and had one shot on goal in Thursday’s 0-0 tie vs. Northwestern Oklahoma State while also playing a team-high 68 minutes while recording an assist in Sunday’s 4-0 victory over William Jewell College.

The Wayne State College women’s soccer team is 1-0-1 on the season.

It’s the first time that Hensley, the graduate of Council Bluffs Lewis Central High School, has received NSIC Special Teams Player of the Week honors.

Hensley produced 14 points by making all three field goals and five extra point kicks against the Dragons last Thursday. He booted field goals of 39, 41 and 44 yards (career long) while also making all five PAT kicks. Hensley had three touchbacks while averaging 56.0 yards per kickoff.

This season, Hensley is 12-12 on PAT kicks and 3-3 on field goals while leading the NSIC in kick scoring at 10.5 points per game.

The Wildcat football team improved to 2-0 overall (1-0 NSIC) following last Thursday’s 44-17 road win at MSU Moorhead.
