Trojan volleyball goes 0-5 during NEN tourney

Two locations took over the Wakefield volleyball schedule during the Jean Groth Volleyball Classic.

Wakefield started pool play at Wisner-Pilger on September 4 going 0-2 before dropping three Bronze division matches in Pender on September 6.

The Trojans moved to then 0-7 on the season.

Wakefield opened pool play with 2-0 losses to Archbishop Bergan (Fremont) (13-25, 17-25) and GACC (West Point) (7-25, 12-25) before also being swept  in divisional play against Bancroft-Rosalie (21-25, 22-25), West Point-Beemer (16-25, 23-25) and Pender (11-25, 22-25).

During the opening two days, freshman Quinn Riewer led the Trojans with six combined kills and nine total digs in four sets as senior Ashlyn Riewer recorded eight digs.

Freshman Taylor Brown finished with 17 assists in four sets.

Sophomore Rihanna Rivera posted a team-high four blocks (two solo) in four sets played.

Senior Sierra Kaufmann tallied two aces (both in match one).

No stats were provided from the September 6 matches at the time of printing.

The Trojans secured their first win of the season on September 9 at Madison winning 25-17, 25-22., 25-20

Next up for Wakefield will be their home invite on both September 11 and September 13.

The Trojans will play match one at 5 p.m. in the main gym against Lyons Decatur Northeast before closing out match four against Ponca on September 11.

Wakefield will open Saturday morning against Laurel-Concord-Coleridge at 8:30 a.m. followed by championship and consolation matches from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Wakefield will also host Howells-Dodge on September 16 starting at 5:30 p.m.
