Compositions of the 21st century challenge the musical mastery of trumpet duo Dr. Brandon Loos and Michael Genslinger at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, in Ramsey Theatre, located in Wayne State College’s Peterson Fine Arts Building.
The performance is free and open to the public and will also be livestreamed. To view the livestream, go to www.wsc.edu/watch-live. The program is accessible by selecting the event from the Music Events list at www.wsc.edu/music.
Genslinger is Wayne State’s assistant director of bands, trumpet instructor, and jazz band director. Loos serves as artistic director and conductor for Volusia Community Arts in Deland, Fla., and trumpet instructor at his private studio. Both have extensive solo and group performance experience on numerous national stages.
The concert’s repertoire evokes vivid visuals and engaging melodies. “Under Western Skies” by Kevin McKee captures everything from a classic Western sunset to a trumpet-heralding morning, and dueling trumpets at high-noon. “Concerto for Two Trumpets” by Erik Morales celebrates the trumpet with solo and unison control and accuracy. “Doble o Nada” by Eduardo Nogueroles is a virtuosic ballad-waltz mix.
The concert features piano accompaniment by Shelly Armstrong, Wayne State’s staff accompanist.
