Four Wayne Herald high school volleyball teams were in action, Wayne High softball and #14 Wayne State College volleyball competed on September 23.

From Rice Auditorium on the campus of Wayne State College, #14 WSC swept Augustana (25-15, 26-24, 25-22) in their home opener. The Wildcats improved to 9-2 (3-0 NSIC).

Wayne State College will next host Minnesota Duluth on Friday at 6 p.m. and welcome Bemidji State on Saturday at 5 p.m. during homecoming weekend.

From Ponca, Wayne High softball took care of business with a 14-1 road victory. The Blue Devils are now 15-8 on the season.

Wayne scored nine runs in the top of the second inning.

Mackenzie Nissen recorded a three-run homerun, singled twice and drove in four total runs while Nyla Bolles singled, doubled, drove in two runs and scored twice to lead the Blue Devils.

Courtney Roeber singled twice, drove in two runs and scored twice; Avree Abler singled three times, drove in two runs and scored as Jordyn Gamble singled, drove in two runs and scored. Reagan McGuire also scored twice.

Nissen (59 pitches) picked up the complete game victory in three innings allowing one run off four hits while striking out five batters and walking one. 

Wayne High will next travel to Wisner on Thursday matching up against NEN (Pender/Wisner-Pilger) starting at 4:30 p.m.

From Norfolk, Wayne High volleyball dropped two matches during the Norfolk Catholic triangular. The Blue Devils took Class B Lakeview to the third set dropping a 2-1 decision (23-25, 25-22, 22-25) followed by a 2-0 loss with the Class C2 host Knights (22-25, 17-25).

Wayne High (8-7) will next travel to Hartington on Thursday for the Cedar Catholic triangular along with O'Neill starting at 5:30 p.m.

Just up the road in Norfolk, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge picked up a 3-0 sweep at Lutheran High Northeast (25-14, 25-18, 25-19). The Bears are now (15-0).

LCC will head to Wynot on Thursday for a triangular along with Wakefield starting at 5:30 p.m.

From Wakefield, the host Trojans suffered a loss in straight sets (14-25, 13-25, 23-25) against Clarkson/Leigh.

Wakefield (1-15) will compete in the Wynot triangular with LCC on Thursday starting at 5:30 p.m.

From Wausa, Winside won in straight sets (27-25, 25-17, 25-18) to improve to 6-7.
