Wayne (G/B), Laurel-Concord-Coleridge (G/B) and Wakefield girls wrestlers along with Winside (G/B), LCC (G/B) and Wakefield (G/B) basketball took over Jan. 29.
From Wayne, the Wayne girls wrestling team finished 2-0 with wins of 59-18 over O'Neill and 45-22 against Crofton/Bloomfield while the Blue Devil boys went 0-2 with losses of 42-39 to O'Neill and 42-40 against Crofton/Bloomfield during their home triangular.
The Wayne girls and boys wrestlers return to the mat on Jan. 31 at the Boone Central Invite in Albion starting at 10 a.m.
From Bancroft, the Winside girls basketball team suffered an 80-32 loss while the Winside boys dropped a 61-44 decision at Bancroft-Rosalie.
Next up for both teams will be the Lewis and Clark Conference Tournament.
The Winside girls (6-12, dropped back-to-back) earned the #6 seed and will host #11 Osmond on Jan. 31 at 7:30 p.m. in the first round while the Winside boys (5-12, dropped seventh straight) will be the #6 seed and travel to Randolph on Feb. 3 to face #3 Wausa at 6 p.m.
From Laurel, the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge girls basketball team won 62-28 against Wakefield while the Wakefield boys basketball team picked up a 60-51 victory over LCC.
All four teams will next open conference tourney play (LCC - Greater Northeast Activities Conference, Wakefield - East Husker Conference).
The LCC girls (13-7, won back-to-back) will be the #3 seed and travel to Atkinson (West Holt) on Feb. 3 to face #6 Neligh-Oakdale at 7:30 p.m. while the LCC boys (6-12, dropped back-to-back) will be the #6 seed and travel to Plainview on Feb. 2 to face #3 Summerland.
The Wakefield girls (3-15) were tabbed the #14 seed and will visit #3 Howells-Dodge (in Howells) on Jan. 30 at 7:30 p.m. while the Wakefield boys (11-6, won fourth straight) will be the #7 seed and host #10 Tekamah-Herman on Jan. 31 at 7:30 p.m.
From Randolph, the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge girls wrestling team lost 30-12 while the LCC boys dropped a 48-24 decision at Randolph.
The LCC girls will next travel to the Ainsworth Invite on Jan. 30 starting at noon while the LCC boys will compete in the Plainview Invite on Jan. 31 starting at 9:30 a.m.
From Lyons, the Wakefield girls wrestling team finished fourth with 90.5 points among the 11 teams during the East Husker Conference Championships.
Top Trojan medalists came from Katelyn Walsh (125) collecting a gold conference medal followed by Natalee Nelson (190) earning a silver medal.
Third place finishes were posted by Arianna Juarez (115), Kira Centurion (130) and Melony Manjarrez (140) as Lili Manjarrez (100), Mirella Ruvalcaba (135) and Jazmynn Scott (145) all took fourth.
The Wakefield girls wrestling team is off until Feb. 6 (2 p.m.) and Feb. 7 (9:30 a.m.) during the B-1 District Championships hosted in Plainview (boys at North Bend on Jan. 31 for the EHC Championships).
