County wage determination decided with 2-1 vote

After many months of brainstorming and another hour of conversation put in, the wage determination for 2026-27 was finalized during the July 7 regularly scheduled Wayne County Board of Commissioners meeting.

From the Public Annex, eight valuation protest hearings were also presented during the Wayne County Board of Equalization meeting prior to a two hour Board of Commissioners jam packed agenda.

Per Wayne County Clerk Joni Tietz, 'motion made by (Matt) Eischeid, seconded by (Jim) Rabe, to accept the raises of roadmen as presented to the Board with increases measured in years of service: (1-5 yrs) 3%; (5-10 yrs) 6%; (10+ yrs) 9% with Commissioner discretion to award amounts up to the amounts as presented; District 2 road foreman shall receive a 14% raise, Highway Superintendent shall receive a 17.9% raise; Emergency Manager shall receive a 4.5% raise; Veteran’s Service Office shall receive a 4% raise.'.

The vote was two in favor (Eischeid/Rabe) and one in descent (Terry Sievers).

County employees Julie Schultz, Extension Educator highlighted a future desk purchase and Tarrin Quinn, Deputy Clerk updated the board on a 'calling tree' phone system issue.

Commissioners, with regret, accepted the resignation of Wayne County Weed Superintendent Doug Deck as he prepares for retirement. He first started June 6, 2013.

The next regularly scheduled Wayne County Board of Commissioners meeting will be on July 21 at 9 a.m.
