Funeral services for Lyle H. Krueger, 98, of Norfolk, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 24 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norfolk. Rev. Gretchen Enoch will be officiating the service. Burial will be at the Pleasant View Cemetery, rural Winside. Visitation will be from 5 -7 p.m., Thursday, also at the St. John’s Lutheran Church. Military rites will be conducted by the Roy Reed Post #252 American Legion of Winside and United States Army Honors Guard. 

Lyle died Saturday, July 18, 2026 at his residence in Norfolk.

Lyle was born on Feb. 12, 1928 in Winside to Frank and Anna (Fredricksen) Krueger. He attended grade school at a rural country school District #31 in Wayne County and graduated from Winside High School in 1945. He married Vernell Eckert on Sept. 23, 1954 at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pilger. To this union they had two daughters; Joanne and Cynthia. After marriage they farmed south of Winside. Vernell passed away in 1987. Lyle later married Germaine Wiese on Sept. 30, 1989 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Norfolk. In 1990 Lyle and Germaine moved to Norfolk. 

Lyle enjoyed farming, word search books, playing cards, reading the paper, and watching game shows. He was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norfolk and the Winside American Legion Post #252. Lyle received the Korean War Veteran recognition medal for his service in the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Germaine Krueger of Norfolk; daughters Joanne (Roy) Petersen of Stanton and Cynthia (Kevin) Gothier of Winside; eight stepchildren Steve (Melissa) Wiese, Wanda (Brady) Anderson, Michelle (Jeff) Kostal, Lisa (Art) Kubr, Mike (Sandra) Wiese, Jeff (Stephanie) Wiese, Tom (Nicole) Wiese, Bridget (Jordec) Cramer; numerous grandchildren Clayton and Jaclyn Petersen, Erica and Todd Hanton, April Frevert, Ashley Frevert; step-grandchildren Tim Wiese, Olivia McRae, Alex Wiese, Zach Anderson, Erin Euse, Josh Kostal, Cassandra Kostal, Lucas Kubr, Jackson Wiese, Marissa Wiese, Brevin Wiese, Chloe Wiese, Dominic Wiese, Anthony Wiese, Halle Wiese, Nathan Wiese, Eliot Cramer, Ian Cramer; six great-grandchildren, 13 step-great-grandchildren with one on the way.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Vernell Krueger, and parents Frank and Anna Krueger; granddaughter Mary Amanda Frevert; step-granddaughter Stella Cramer; brothers Dale (Lois) Krueger, and Jack (Mildred) Krueger.

Casket bearers will be Clayton Petersen, Todd Hanton, Steve Wiese, Mike Wiese, Jeff Wiese, Tom Wiese, and Lucas Kubr. Honorary casket bearers will be grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Condolences may be expressed to the family on-line at www.stonacekfuneralchapel.com.
