Wayne High basketball, Wayne bowling, Wayne and Tri County Northeast boys wrestling, Winside girls and boys wrestling, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge girls wrestling, Wakefield girls and boys wrestling and Wayne State College basketball made up a busy Jan. 10.

From Albion, the Wayne High girls basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak with a 50-47 victory in double overtime while the Blue Devil boys dropped their fourth straight following a 44-41 loss at Boone Central.

The Wayne girls (9-5) and boys (7-6) will next host Laurel-Concord-Coleridge at 6:15/7:30 p.m. on Jan. 13.

From Hartington, the Wayne High girls bowling team won by forfeit while the Blue Devil boys picked up a 20-1 overall match victory at Hartington-Newcastle.

The Wayne High bowling program will next host Howells-Dodge on Jan. 15 at 4:30 p.m.

From Malcolm, the Wayne boys wrestling team finished third with 121.5 points while the Tri County Northeast boys took 13th (42) during the Malcolm Invite among the 16 teams.

Top Blue Devil medalists were posted by Grady Maas (106) and Grant Maas (157) both winning their weight class.

Noah Magnuson (138) and Keaton Gregory (175) captured second while Maddox Ziska (285) took third.

Thomas Raymundo (132) finished fourth.

The lone TCNE medal came from Aidan Isom (144) in third place.

The Wayne High boys wrestling team will next join their girls at Battle Creek on Jan. 15 for a dual starting at 6 p.m. (girls next at Summerland Invite on Jan. 12 at 1 p.m.) while the Allen/Emerson-Hubbard boys co-op will be off until the Lewis and Clark Conference Tournament on Jan. 22 at 1 p.m. hosted by Homer (girls next at Summerland Invite on Jan. 12 at 1 p.m.).

From Winside, the Wakefield girls wrestling team earned a 10th place finish with 41 points, Winside took 15th (23) and Laurel-Concord-Coleridge finished 18th (14) among the 20 teams.

Wakefield's top performers were Arianna Juarez (115) and Natalee Nelson (190) both in second.

Winside leaders were posted by Avery Brummels (100) in third as Aspen Sellin (145) finished fourth.

The lone LCC medalist came from Tae Settje (115) in fourth.

The Winside and Wakefield girls will both next travel to the Summerland Invite on Jan. 12 (1 p.m.) while the LCC girls will visit Plainview for an invite on Jan. 17 at 10 a.m. (boys at West Holt Invite on Jan. 16 at noon).

From Ewing, the Wakefield boys wrestling team finished ninth scoring 55 points while Winside took 12th (27 pts) during the Summerland Invite among the 13 teams.

Wakefield leaders were posted by Ruben Vega (165) who won his weight class while Hayden McAfee (120) took third.

Lane Fischer (138) and Arnulfo Barboza (285) both placed fourth. 

Top medalists for Winside came from Asher Uttecht (150) placing second while Braxton Hansen (120) finished fifth. 

The Winside boys will next travel to the Weeping Water Invite on Jan. 16 (2 p.m.) while the Wakefield boys will host a triangular on Jan. 15 starting at 6 p.m.

From the Millard South Invite, the Norfolk boys swimming team finished fifth with 121 points.

The Norfolk swimming team will next travel to Columbus on Jan. 13 for a dual starting at 4:30 p.m.

From Rice Auditorium on the campus of WSC, the Wayne State College men saw their four-game winning streak snapped following a 73-70 loss while the Wildcat women have now won back-to-back thanks to a 55-48 victory against Jamestown (ND).

The WSC men (9-7/5-5 NSIC) and women (8-8/3-7 NSIC) will next play four straight doubleheaders on the road starting with a trip to Minnesota Crookston on Jan. 16 at 5:30/7:30 p.m.
