Verianne McClain, 89, of Wayne, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2023 at Providence Medical Center in Wayne.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10 at First Presbyterian Church in Wayne. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until service time at First Presbyterian Church in Wayne. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Wayne.

Memorials may be directed to the McClain family for later designation.

Arrangements are with Hasemann Funeral Home of Wayne.

Verianne Dorothy Rose McClain was born April 27, 1934 to Martin D.  and Velma E. (Busch) VonFecht in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She attended Macedonia Consolidated School through 10th grade and graduated from Red Oak High School in Red Oak, Iowa. Verianne married Thomas McClain Dec. 20, 1953 at the First Methodist Church in Macedonia, Iowa. The couple lived in Omaha and Verianne worked for World Insurance Company and then El Paso, Texas where she worked at Mountain States Bell Telephone until Tom’s discharge from his military service. After farming for three years in Grove Township near Carson, Iowa they moved to Oakland, Iowa, and then Onawa, Iowa  and then to Wakefield and settled in Wayne. For several years, Verianne and Tom enjoyed wintering in Yuma, Arizona during the months between October and April. 

Survivors include her daughters, Kathy Magnuson of Wayne, Sherry McClain of Wayne, Judy (Jim) Joy of Lincoln, Lori Lee of Norfolk, Tammy (Mark) Lewon of Wayne and Greg Eggers of Carson, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Kent  VonFecht of  Virginia Beach, Virginia; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Velma VonFecht; husband, Tom in 2008; in-laws, Fay and Ellen (Heady) McClain; step-daughter, Gwen Eggers; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
