Virginia Dell (Jackson) Holtgrew, 90, of Hillsville, Virginia formerly of Winside died Saturday, June 7, 2025 at Commonwealth Senior Living in Hillsville.

Funeral services will be held at a later date in Hillsville.

A memorial has been established to the Winside United Methodist Church and Wayne Veterinary Clinic for the Winside Wayward Cats.  

Virginia Dell Jackson Holtgrew was born on April 29, 1935 at Winside to John Kent and Etta (Overman) Jackson. She attended school at Rural District 58 and Winside Public School, graduating in 1952. Virginia married Warren Holtgrew on Dec. 31, 1954 at the Winside United Methodist Church. They lived in Colorado until 1956 when they moved to a farm southeast of Winside. They lived on that farm for 25 years, lived on the Gulf Coast of Florida for 25 years, and lived in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Southwest Virginia at her passing. Virginia played the organ at several churches. Virginia and Warren had two daughters, Patti and Della. 

Virginia is survived by her husband Warren of Hillsville, Virginia; her daughters Patti Burris of Winside and Della Wright of Troutville, Virginia; her grandchildren, Emma Burris-Janssen and Caroline Burris, both of Winside; and several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Charles Jackson; two sons-in-law and two nephews.
