Volleyball team moves up to No. 3 in poll

The Wayne State volleyball team moved up to No. 3 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s Div. II Top 25 coaches poll announced Tuesday.
The Wildcats, who have been in the poll for 90 consecutive rankings dating back to Sept. 28, 2009, went 4-0 at the Oredigger Classic last weekend in Golden, Colo. and moved up three spots this week, trailing top-ranked Concordia-St. Paul and Wheeling Jesuit.
Four of the top five spots in the poll this week are held by Northern Sun Conference schools, with Minnesota Duluth up six spots to No. 4 and Southwest Minnesota State moving down a spot to No. 5. Seven NSIC schools are in this week’s rankings, including No. 11 Northern State, No. 13 Winona State and No. 22 Augustana.
The Central Region accounts for eight of the top 10 teams in this week’s ranking, including MIAA schools Central Missouri (No. 6), Nebraska-Kearney (No. 7), Central Oklahoma (No. 9) and Washburn (No. 10). The Region currently holds 10 of the top 13 spots in this week’s poll.
