Wakefield drops two on road

Both Wakefield girls and boys basketball teams were on the road to open the week.

From Winnebago, the Trojans competed against Winnebago on Tuesday.

The Wakefield girls lost (no score provided) while the Wakefield boys suffered a 65-56 loss against the host Indians.

In the girls game, Wakefield quarter scoring showcased eight first quarter points followed by five in the second quarter to total 13 in the first half. The Trojans posted a 15-point third quarter and eight more points in the fourth. Final favored Winnebago winning (no score provided) to improve to 10-14 winning third third straight as the visiting Trojans fell to 4-17.

Wakefield was leaders were sophomore Boston Brown with 16 points as sophomore Montse Avila added 11 points.

Other scoring came from junior Ashlyn Riewer with six points, senior Isabella Andrade tallied two points as senior Alli Brown scored a point.

During the boys outing, Wakefield fell to 11-9 as Winnebago improved to 11-11 winning back-to-back.

Wakefield leaders were junior Cael Johnson with 18 points, senior Jesse Lundahl and junior Jacob Birkley both added 11 points as junior Jacob Borg followed with 10 points.

The Wakefield girls will next open postseason play next week with tourney brackets coming out this Thursday while the Wakefield boys will close out their regular season at Homer on Friday, Feb. 21.
