Following road losses to begin the season on Thursday, the Wakefield girls and boys basketball teams competed in their home opener over the weekend.
From the main gym in Wakefield, the Trojans entertained Howells-Dodge on Dec. 7.
The Wakefield girls suffered a 62-16 loss while the Trojans boys fell 70-29. Both teams are 0-2 on the season.
In the girls outing, Howells-Dodge jumped ahead 15-2 in the first quarter and outscored Wakefield, 9-5 in the second quarter to go up 24-7 at the break. The visiting Jaguars won the third quarter, 17-6 and fourth, 21-3. Final favored Howells-Dodge winning 62-16.
No individual stats were provided for Wakefield.
During the boys game, Howells-Dodge built a 21-12 lead after the opening quarter and then used a 21-3 advantage in the second to go up 42-15 at the half. The visiting Jaguars then outscored Wakefield, 18-6 in the third and 10-8 in the fourth. Final favored Howells-Dodge winning 70-29.
