Wakefield falls in five to begin season

It was a back and forth battle during a Thursday night season opener for the Wakefield volleyball team.

From Wakefield, the Trojans entertained Plainview.

Plainview secured the five set victory to improve to 1-0 while the Trojans fell to 0-1.

Scores of the match favored the visiting Pirates 16-25, 25-22, 25-21, 15-25 and 15-12.

Senior Alli Brown from Wakefield recorded a double-double with 19 kills and 21 digs to go along with two blocks.

Other dig leaders were sophomore Montserratt Avila with 22 (nine kills); senior Isabella Andrade also had 22 digs (seven kills) while junior Ashlyn Riewer tacked on 21 digs.

Sophomore Boston Brown led the team in assists with 19 to go along with seven kills, two digs and one block as junior Gracyn Keagle had 17 assists, five kills, five digs and three blocks (one solo).

Junior Sierra Kaufman finished with six kills, three digs and one block.

Riewer posted four service aces followed by Boston Brown and Andrade both with three as Alli Brown and Avila both had an ace.
