Wakefield girls fall to 0-3, Trojan boys win Tuesday

A trio of games were played for both of the Wakefield girls and boys basketball teams during week one of NSAA winter sports action.

The Wakefield girls first lost 69-9 to Pender on Dec. 4 in Wakefield, dropped a 73-20 decision at Howells-Dodge on Dec. 6 and recently suffered a 55-19 loss at Wayne on Dec. 9. Wakefied is now 0-3.

In boys action, the Trojans suffered a 50-30 defeat to Pender, lost 79-48 at Howells-Dodge before picking up a 59-58 win at Wayne. Wakefield is now 1-2.

During girls competition, Quinn Riewer was the top scorer (6/9 pts) on four total made three-pointers and three total steals as Gracyn Keagle added six points at Howells-Dodge (1 pt vs. Pender). Both players posted six total rebounds for two games.

Top scorers from Dec. 9 came from Quinn Riewer, Sierra Kaufman and Ella Hoffart all with four points.

From boys games, Brandon Paredes averaged 11 points during his first two games.

Other double figure leaders at Howells-Dodge were Cael Johnson with 12 points (3 pts vs. Pender) who averaged 10 rebounds and added five steals over two games and Jacob Borg with 10 points (7 pts vs. Pender).

Both Paredes and Birkley hit four three-pointers on the weekend.

Other leaders were Benny Palma (five assists)

Top scorers from Dec. 9 were posted by Paredes (23 - three made three's) and Cael Johnson (12). The Trojans were 5-8 at the foul line in the final quarter (7-16 in game).

Upcoming for Wakefield will be hosting Battle Creek on Dec. 12 (JV starts at 4:45 p.m.), at Wisner-Pilger on Dec. 13 (JV starts at 2 p.m.) and at Bloomfield on Dec. 16 (JV starts at 4 p.m.).
