Both Wakefield girls and boys basketball teams closed out East Husker Conference Tournament play during a single loser’s bracket game.
From Madison, #13 Wakefield girls took on #14 Tekamah-Herman while #8 Wakefield boys hosted #10 Lyons-Decatur Northeast both on Tuesday.
The Wakefield girls picked up a 65-39 win as the Wakefield boys won 69-26.
In the girls game, Wakefield snapped a four-game losing streak improving to 4-16 as Tekamah-Herman fell to 2-18.
A team-high 27 points was scored by junior Ashlyn Riewer who broke the school record (previously six by Jordan Metzler) by knocking down seven three-point baskets for the Trojans. Sophomores Boston Brown and Montse Avila followed with 13 and 12 points respectively.
During the boys outing, Wakefield improved to 11-8 as Lyons-Decatur Northeast fell to 6-14.
Wakefield leaders were junior Cael Johnson with 22 points, senior Jesse Lundahl followed with 17 points as junior Jacob Borg added 12 points.
The Wakefield girls will next close out their regular season at Winnebago on Tuesday, Feb. 11. Remaining Wakefield boys games include also at Winnebago on Feb. 11 before closing out their regular season at Homer on Friday, Feb. 21.
