A member of the Northeast Community College volleyball team and past graduate from Wakefield was recognized on the All-Region team.
According to a release from Hawks Athletics, Alex Arenas from Wakefield was named Second Team All-Region among the five Northeast players listed.
The Hawks finished runner-up during the Region 11 Tournament following a loss in the finals to Kirkwood Community College 3-0 on Nov. 10. Northeast picked up Region 11 Tournament wins over Ellsworth Community College 3-1 and Iowa Central Community College 3-0.
Northeast Community College closed their year with a 26-15 overall record after finishing third with an 8-3 mark during the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference.
Arenas was named Third Team All-Region the year prior in 2023 and improved on that mark to reach Second Team All-Region in 2024. Arenas had 416 digs, 234 kills and was someone that the Hawks could rely on in their lineup throughout the year.
Mya Hedstrom (O’Neill, Neb.) and Shaylyn Safranek (Merna, Neb.) were named First Team All-Region, Alex Arenas (Wakefield, Neb.) was named Second Team All-Region, Avery Couch (David City, Neb.) was named Third Team All-Region and Kaidence Wilson (North Loup, Neb.) was named Honorable Mention All-Region.
Hedstrom and Safranek both placed on the Region 11 Tournament All-Tournament Team. Hedstrom led Northeast in kills this season with 408 and had 46 service aces throughout the campaign. Safranek was a setting machine for the Hawks as she tallied 952 assists and averaged 7.56 assists per set.
Sophomore Kaidence Wilson (North Loup, Nebraska) caps her career at Northeast will an All-Region selection as she finished the year with 84 blocks, which were second-most on the Hawks. Wilson recorded 203 kills throughout the campaign and was second on the squad with 284.5 points.
