Wakefield football traveled to the Hartington Sports Complex on September 5 for week two eight-man football action taking on a top-notch opponent.
The host Hartington-Newcastle Wildcats took control early and ran away from Wakefield for the 57-6 victory to improve to 2-0.
"Although the score doesn't indicate it we saw some good improvement this (past) week," said head coach Joe Kvidera. "We need to continue that improvement. We have another tough game coming up and will really need to focus on our execution this week."
After falling behind 21-0, Wakefield produced their lone points of the game in the second quarter but allowed another 13 points to trail 34-6 at half. Hartington-Newcastle added 16 points in the third and seven more points in the fourth.
Wakefield falls to 0-2 and has now dropped 19 straight dating back to their final game of 2022 (10/14).
Senior Jacob Borg finished 7-19 for 95 yards with one touchdown.
Sophomore Matthew Metzler caught two passes for 12 yards and one score.
Senior Mason Lamprecht led the receivers with four catches for 71 yards.
Junior Carter Kratke recorded a team-high nine tackles (four solo) with an interception and two pass break-ups as senior Ruben Vega added eight tackles (five solo) with a tackle for loss.
Sophomore Mark Ruiz tallied seven tackles (four solo) while sophomore Oliver Sievers (six tackles/three solo) and senior Jaden Sievers (two tackles) both had a half sack.
Wakefield will next face another top-tier opponent on Friday, September 12 traveling to Bloomfield for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
