Wakefield Post 81 Seniors set for Area 2 tourney
A five-team bracket is in store for the Class C Area 2 Senior American Legion baseball Tournament where Wakefield Post 81 will be in action.
From Wisner City Park in Wisner, Post 81 was tabbed as the #3 seed and will first play on Friday, July 25 at 5 p.m. against #2 Oakland.
The Wakefield Seniors (8-12) were last in action on July 19 winning 8-1 and 11-4 over Tri-County Titans from Orchard during a Chuck Ellis Tourney doubleheader in Wakefield.
Game number two will showcase the host #4 Wisner-Pilger/Dodge-Howells taking on #5 Tekamah-Herman at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday with the winner to advance and take on #1 Pender on Saturday, July 26 at 7 p.m.
The two losers of T-H/Wisner and Wakefield/Oakland will square off in an elimination game on July 26 at 4:30 p.m.
The Wakefield/Oakland winner will receive a bye into Sunday, July 27 at 7 p.m.
Championship action is set for Tuesday, July 29 at 5:30 p.m. with the winner to represent Area 2 in the Class C Senior American Legion baseball state tourney.
Class C Senior state is scheduled for Saturday, August 2 - Wednesday, August 6 hosted by Sutton.

Wakefield Post 81 wins twice on July 19
After Plainview backed out of the Chuck Ellis Tournament, the Wakefield Post 81 Senior American Legion baseball team hosted a doubleheader.
From Eaton Field in Wakefield, Post 81 welcomed the Tri-County Titan Senior team from Orchard on July 19.
Wakefield secured home wins of 8-1 and 11-4 to improve to now 8-12. Post 81 was previously in action on July 15 hosting Dakota Valley.
During the opening game, Turner Thompson doubled, drove in a run and scored twice while Jesse Lundahl doubled.
Ruben Vega singled, drove in a run and scored; Cael Johnson singled and scored twice, Jacob Birkley singled and scored as Tanner Thompson and Matthew Metzler both scored.
Lundahl (55 pitches) picked up the win in five innings of relief striking out eight batters and walking one. Johnson (46) started the opening two innings allowing an earned run off two hits while walking four batters.
In the night cap, Birkley singled, drove in a run and scored twice while both Tanner and Turner Thompson singled, drove in a run and scored.
Johnson singled; Mason Lamprecht and Metzler both scored twice as single runs came from Lundahl, Vega and Isiah Villa.
Lamprecht (37 pitches) picked up the win in three innings allowing an earned run off two hits while striking out, walking and hitting one batter each. Tanner Thompson (40) worked the final two innings allowing three runs off three hits while striking out four batters and walking one.
Class B and C Senior American Legion baseball tournaments will open on Friday, July 25 and play through Tuesday, July 29.
Wakefield will travel to Wisner for the Class C Area 2 Tournament. Participating teams will be the host Wisner-Pilger/Dodge-Howells, Wakefield, Pender and Tekamah-Herman.
Rolling Hills Supply Wayne Post 43 (18-2) has been off since July 7. Wayne will be hosting the Class B Area 5 Tournament. Teams joining Wayne will be David City, Lakeview, Pierce, Schuyler, West Point and Stanton.
